Word of the Day: Vittate

Word of the Day: Vittate

In this series, I will take the Word of the Day from Dictionary.com and craft a short piece of creative writing around it.  My goal is to embrace the meaning of the word in some unique way, all the while trying out different styles, rhythms and characterizations.  It is as much an exercise in creativity as it is an exploration of grammar. Enjoy!

Vittate

By Alex Seise

Ah, to be a  cat of a different coat! With vittate stripes of lustrous gold set against the crush of dark chocolate undertones, each hair caught the light with a radiance not unlike a fine embroidered wrap from the Far East. The feline slinked between the narrow trunks of tall trees, a victim of wanderlust and hunger whose mind raced nearly as fast its paws carried it through the brush. A rustle, a creak; a trot, then a sneak; this cat was firm in its devotion to dinner.
