Word of the Day: Indelible

Word of the Day: Indelible

In this series, I will take the Word of the Day from Dictionary.com and craft a short piece of creative writing around it.  My goal is to embrace the meaning of the word in some unique way, all the while trying out different styles, rhythms and characterizations.  It is as much an exercise in creativity as it is an exploration of grammar. Enjoy!

Indelible

By Alex Seise

A chapter will close tonight, one that I’ve wanted to burn in a bright, lighter fluid-stoked bonfire for several years now. The feeling is sweet, zesty; the call of celebrations later in the week cheers me on. The experience has left an indelible mark on me, as every brand that scorches the flesh does. But scars make the skin tough, stronger even; they prepare you for harder times and bumpier rides down the gravel path of life. That’s how I’ll look back on this part of the journey. It rosies the memory, certainly, but it also makes the sojourn feel more worthwhile than it likely ever will be to me. So to learning and growing, toiling and sowing; tomorrow at dawn I raise my glass and drink of what awaits in the pools and puddles along the path. My only hope is that the nectar will be sweet.
