Word of the Day: Eire

Word of the Day: Eire

In this series, I will take the Word of the Day from Dictionary.com and craft a short piece of creative writing around it.  My goal is to embrace the meaning of the word in some unique way, all the while trying out different styles, rhythms and characterizations.  It is as much an exercise in creativity as it is an exploration of grammar. Enjoy!

Eire

By Alex Seise

She sang with a haunting agony about the sorrows of lost love, letting the notes echo against her palate and tongue before spilling out into the vast auditorium. The notes slid together beautifully, bringing tears to many who listened that evening. The words waxed poetic, calling to mind images of green clover pastures and surly ocean waves crashing on the shores of old Eire, a Celtic dreamscape. When the singer finished her expressive aria, she closed her eyes, breathed heavily and bowed slowly into the silent darkness. Thunderous applause roared back, and she smiled toward the audience through a veil of curly orange ringlets that dangled in front of her sparkling green eyes.
